Selce has a hundred-year-old tradition in tourism. The first seaside resort was opened in the distant 1894; that year is considered the beginning of tourism in this area. Selce is a small town with well-preserved Primorje style, offering a number of visitor opportunities (hotels, campsites, rooms), with well-maintained, mostly pebble beaches; boat piers and small ports and a picturesque seaside promenade (Lungomare). Sports and recreational facilities for outdoor recreation (tennis, miniature golf) and water sports. Cultural programs and entertainment are offered in the nearby town Croatia-Kvarner-Bay--Crikvenica_1-2-39.htm" target="_self">Crikvenica. Much visited are Fishermen?s Fiests on the seaside (12th of July, 12th of August) and the Fishing with Guests (17th of August). Selce, a town and harbour on the coast of the Vinodol Channel, 3 km southeast of Crikvenica; elevation 22 m. It is situated on a slightly slanted limestone slope in the cove of the same name, separated from a smaller cove, Slana, by Selce Cape. The coast is low and rocky, with a number of sand beaches. Selce developed on the location of a Roman antique habitation, near the springs (Jama, Polaca, etc.). The harbour is 5 km from Croatia-Kvarner-Bay--Bribir_1-2-45.htm" target="_self">Bribir, one of the ancient fortifications of Vinodol. Chief occupations include farming, viticulture, olive growing, livestock breeding, fishing and tourism. Selce is located on the main road, i.e. Adriatic main road (M2, E65).

The Kvarner Bay is situated in the northern Adriatic Sea, between the Istrian peninsula and the northern Croatian seacoast. The main islands within the Kvarner are Croatia-Island-Cres_1-10.htm" target="_self">Cres, Croatia-Island-Krk_1-6.htm" target="_self">Krk, Croatia-Island-Pag_1-9.htm" target="_self">Pag, Croatia-Island-Rab_1-8.htm" target="_self">Rab and Croatia-Island-Losinj_1-7.htm">Losinj. The main portion of the Kvarner bay is that between the mainland, Cres and Krk. A smaller body of water located between Cres, Krk, Rab and Pag is called Kvarneric (the little Kvarner). The bay is notable for its depth, which allows for the city of Rijeka at its northernmost point to have a sea port that can handle the largest ships (tankers and such).
