Barbariga, a tourist village on the Barbariga peninsula (Punta Cissana, after the lost ancient settlement of Cissa) on the south-western coast of Istria, 22 km southwest of Croatia-Istria-Pula_1-1-13.htm" target="_self">Pula. Chief occupations include farming (olives), fishing and tourism. A regional road connects Barbariga with Croatia-Istria-Peroj_1-1-28.htm" target="_self">Peroj. The remains of a Roman summer mansion from the 1st century have been found on the coast. The floors of the mansion were adorned with mosaics of two or more colours, while its walls were adorned with frescoes with vegetal and figural decorations. The remains of an ancient oil refinery are located in the mansion?s vicinity.

Istria is the biggest peninsula in the Adriatic Sea. The peninsula is located at the head of the Adriatic between the Gulf of Trieste and the Croatia-Kvarner-Bay-_1-2.htm" target="_self">Bay of Kvarner. The region lies mostly in Istria county of western Croatia. The larger geographical features of Istria include the Ucka (Monte Maggiore) mountain in the east, the rivers Dragonja, Mirna, Pazincica and Rasa, and the Lim bay.
