Ciovo is an island in the central Dalmatian archipelago connected to land with a draw bridge. The bridge between land and the island is situated next to the historical town of Croatia-Central-Dalmatia--Trogir_1-4-55.htm" target="_self">Trogir. The island is actually an extension of Trogir which is without any doubts a town-museum of the medieval heritage. UNESCO recognized its values and included it in the registry of the world monument heritages. Trogir is connected with the island of Ciovo by a bridge. This island was called in the past "the barn of Trogir". As early as the Middle Ages there were the villages there such as Rabnija, Zedno, Croatia-Island-Ciovo-Okrug-Gornji_1-21-143.htm" target="_self">Okrug Gornji, Okrug Donji which were the part of Trogir meanwhile Slatine, a place located more to the east belonged to Croatia-Central-Dalmatia--Split_1-4-67.htm" target="_self">Split. To the west of the village Rabnije, alog the sea there was the Dominican monastery devoted to the Holy Cross, established in th 1432.
