Punat lies on the south-east part on the picturesque and green Puntarska draga (a small bay), also known as Kosljunska draga, and is only 7 km from the town of Croatia-Island-Krk-Krk_1-6-94.htm" target="_self">Krk. At one time well-know for shipbuilding, Punat is nowadays one the leading marinas on the Croatian Adriatic. It has a well-equipped large marina, a must for all those sailing the eastern Adriatic, excellent swimming areas surrounded by rich vegetation, hotels and private accommodation and various sporting facilities: tennis, mini golf, boccie, diving, sailing, underwater and sports fishing, diving and sailing courses. We recommend Punat to all of those who enjoy sailing, active holidays and various types of entertainment. A place worth visiting is the small wooded island of Kosljun placed in the middle of the shallow Puntarska draga. A Franciscan monastery, built on the ruins of a Roman villa, can be seen on the island.

KRK, an island in the Kvarner Archipelago, the largest island of the Adriatic Sea; area 409 sq km (38 km lenght, width up to 20 km); population 16,402. North of the narrow part at the line Vrbnik - Punat spreads the lower, forested, more fertile and populated part of the island. The higher, southern part, is predominantly bare, interspersed with thick forests. The Baska Cove cuts through the limestone plain, ending in the Gulf of Baska. The highest peak of the island, Obzova (569 m), lies in the southern karst region. The rocky, steep and predominantly bare north-western coast is neither developed nor easily accessible, and represents a danger when the bura blows. The south-western and south-eastern coasts are well developed. The name of the island is derived from latin - Curicta, because the island was inhabitated even in ancient and prehistoric times, with the Ilyrian tribes Japods and Liburnians being the first inhabitants of this "Golden Island" - "Insula Aurea". This name was given to the island in antique times because of its ability to provide abundantly for its inhabitants and guests. Speaking of antiquity, the two towns of the period were in todays Krk and Omisalj, or as the romans named them - Curicta and Fulfinum. A historical naval battle occured between Caesar and Pompei in the vacinity of the Krk bridge, in the bay now called Voz. Later, in the middle ages, Krks aristocracy, the princes Frankopan built their castels in the same towns adding to them three more - Vrbnik, Croatia-Island-Krk-Baska_1-6-95.htm" target="_self">Baska and Dobrinj. The Frankopans didnt rule only over the island, but expanded their power over almost a half of present day Croatia. In that respect, their family seat, the castle Kamplin in Krk is a must for all guests. Today, it is the site of concerts, plays and other entertaining events. Krk has also been an important center of literacy throughout history, nurishing the local alphabet - Glagoljica - and preserving the first ever written document on the Croatia language; the Bascanska Ploca, which is now on display in Zagreb. A replica can be seen in the small village of its origin, in the chapel of Saint Lucija. Today, Krk is an island rich in variety, with modern entertainment and accommodation in hotels, campsites, etc., along with peaceful oases of traditional living where you can stay in private holiday homes and apartments. The event of the year is the Feast of Krk, 8.8. - 10.8., when the town transforms itself and takes you back to the Middle Ages and the rule of the Frankopans. It is by far not the only event on the island, almost every town and villages has their own feast and numerous cultural and entertainment events ranging from concerts and plays to traditional dances and performances, along with local culinary delicacies and famous wines, like the golden Vrbnicka Zlahtina.
